The situation from the borders between Ukraine and Russia continues to be strained and quite uncertain. Russia gathered over 100,000 troops there, and many are concerned that a war is about to start. One of them is Ukraine’s President himself, Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to CNBC.com, Zelensky even fears that full-scale war will ignite if his country gets involved in a military confrontation against Russia.
Entire Europe would be affected
The Ukrainian President believes that the entire ‘old continent’ would be affected if a conflict between Ukraine and Russia starts. He said likewise after a meeting that occurred yesterday (February 1) with Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister. However, Zelensky still finds the strength to be optimistic.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky declared during a press conference:
Nobody needs a war. But we do not invite anyone with weapons to our land. I can say for sure that the state has changed, society and the army have changed. And now there will be no occupation of any city or territory. And there will be, unfortunately, a tragedy if the escalation against our state begins. That is why I openly say: this will not be a war between Ukraine and Russia – this will be a war in Europe. Full-scale war, because no one will give up their territories and people anymore.
Ukraine is currently not a member of either NATO or the European Union. However, the country’s pro-Western government could be in favor of making Ukraine a member of both organizations.
Hopefully, things will calm down soon enough. Russia said several times that it doesn’t plan an invasion of Ukraine. Instead, the biggest country on Earth claims that it just wants to protect its security interests. It doesn’t want an expansion of the Western military to its borders.
