Russia has gathered over 100,000 troops at its border with Ukraine, raising a lot of concerns over the world that a war is about the start. Russian leaders are unsatisfied that Ukraine would become a member of NATO. In this way, the Western troops would get extended too close to Russia, a scenario that the Russian authorities don’t like.
Even the Ukrainian President, Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky, said that “full-scale” war would start if Russia launches an attack on its neighbor country Ukraine. However, Zelensky hopes that the situation will calm down, adding that “nobody needs a war. But we do not invite anyone with weapons to our land.”, as he declared during a press conference after a meeting with the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The West doesn’t cooperate enough
Russia doesn’t want a war, either, or as that’s what the country’s officials say. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin is now discontented that the West is ignoring his country’s key concerns related to Ukraine. The information is brought by CNN, and the publication adds that the US and NATO offered responses to the security demands Russia has regarding Ukraine. The main demands Russia had were ignored, according to Putin.
During a news conference held yesterday, February 1, Vladimir Putin declared, as CNN quotes:
It is already clear — I informed the Prime Minister about this — that the fundamental Russian concerns were ignored. We did not see an adequate consideration of our three key requirements.
As cited by the same source, the Russian President added that there wasn’t “adequate consideration of our three key demands regarding NATO expansion, the renunciation of the deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders, and the return of the [NATO] bloc’s military infrastructure in Europe to the state of 1997, when the Russia-NATO founding act was signed.”
