SHOCKING: Find Out Which Everyday Painkiller Kills You

It’s no secret that most of us trust over-the-counter medicine to not harm us in any way. And even with prescription ones, if they’re light enough, we generally trust that no amount will ever damage our body. Unfortunately, we’re so very wrong, and some of us pay the price for our ignorance, as was the case of the 52-year old Gary Hanley.

Hanley reportedly took an aspirin almost every day for five years, even when he suffered from minor pains such as a passing headache. And it was his numb comfort and unwillingness to live out severe afflictions that caused his demise and cost him his life in the end. While Gary had a reason for initially starting to self-medicate, namely that he would experience random pain from a head injury he had suffered during a pub fight in 2013, it’s safe to say that he exaggerated. And thus, Gary Hanley died of a gastric hemorrhage.

Doctors Warn Against Mindless Self-Medication

Following Hanely’s death, doctors across the country have started to strongly advise everyone to never attempt such an extreme and careless form of self-medication. Even though mild painkillers and other over-the-counter drugs are essentially harmless, prolonged and excessive ingestion can lead to complications, especially in the stomach or heart.

Gary Hanley’s case was a very unfortunate one, and should serve as a cautionary tale to those out there looking for easy ways to self-medicate. Even if you’re suffering from minor afflictions, if they are recurring, always go see a doctor about it. When it comes to your health, you need to make informed decisions all the time, and your doctor is the one that can help you. He or she will determine what you need to do in order to improve your condition. Self-medication can be very damaging and destructive, especially when it’s exaggerated.
