New Electronic Tattoo Can Measure Your Blood Pressure With High Accuracy

People have been relying on smartwatches, among other devices, to keep track of their blood pressure. There’s no wonder why, as this criterion can tell if a person is in danger of heart disease and other health issues.

Smartwatches have proven over the years to represent a modern and useful way to measure blood pressure. There’s not even the need for a doctor to be around, as the smartwatch user can deal with the process alone with the push of a button. But soon enough, smartwatches could become obsolete as well.

A new electronic tattoo attached to your wrist can measure blood pressure

According to Daily Beast, a team of researchers from the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University came up with a new device that looks like a tattoo and behaves like a device that measures the blood pressure of the person who’s using it. The user can wear it without a problem for many hours.

The usual armbands used for measuring blood pressure are considered far less efficient than what the new tattoo-like device offers. The researchers involved hope that their invention would lead to more modern ways of keeping track of the blood pressure in an individual.

Roozbeh Jafari, co-author of the research and also a professor of biomedical engineering at Texas A&M, explained for The Daily Beast:

Blood pressure is an important metric,

It gives us a holistic view of the entire cardiovascular system. But if you want to measure it, just one or a few measurements a day isn’t enough, and cuff-based solutions are inconvenient, uncomfortable, and impractical.

In fact, when it comes to the world of blood pressure monitoring, having a cuffless device is the “holy grail.”

The new invention was published in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.
