After human remains were said to be found back in 2011, experts decided to investigate. Archeologists found out one of the most amazing, while tragically gruesome sites out there: the site of a mass children sacrifice recorded on the northern coast of Peru.

Initially, when they were alerted back in 2011 they started to dig on the site and they found dozens of human children remains and, weirdly enough, llama remains as well. In a five year period thye uncovered hundreds of other remains, coming up with a total of 140 child remains and 200 llamas remains.
The gruesome detail of this story? Well, the bodies’ state suggests that the children’s chests were cut open and that their hearts were ripped out. In order to find out when exactly this took place, samples were taken from the site and with the help of radiocarbon researchers found out that the mass ritual must have taken place sometime between 1400 and 1450 AD.
How old were the children that were killed? Well, most of them were between 8 and 12 years old at the time of this ritual and the oldest ones were 14. The youngest human child body that was found belonged to a 5 year old. Their faces were smeared with cinnabar, a red pigment and the kids’ bodies were placed facing westward while the llamas were face westward.
Form the markings that were found, some of the animals resisted and hat to be brought to the ritual site by force. This site shocked archeologists due to its brutal nature, since they were not expecting to find so many dead children in one place, which leaves them to wonder why they were murdered in such a way but it is highly unlikely that the answer to this question will ever be found out.
