Dr. Anthony Fauci is once again under the spotlight. The chief medical advisor of the White House is in favor of vaccinating younger children for COVID with three doses. His claims come in the context of clinical trials of Pfizer revealing that two vaccine shots weren’t too effective in children aged 2 to 4 years old, according to CNBC.com.
The infectious disease expert also says, as the same publication reveals, that we could be about a month away from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approving Pfizer’s vaccine in the case of children under five years old. Currently, this age group is not eligible for COVID vaccination.
No guarantee so far
During an interview with Blue Star Families, Dr. Fauci declared, as quoted by CNBC.com:
My hope is that it’s going to be within the next month or so and not much later than that, but I can’t guarantee that.
According to Pfizer, no safety concerns had been identified when it comes to the 3-microgram vaccine doses for children between six months and four years old.
Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC director, declared during a conference call, as quoted by CNBC.com:
Sadly, we are seeing the rates of hospitalizations increasing for children zero to four, children who are not yet currently eligible for Covid-19 vaccination.
However, the same CDC director once declared that there’s no indication that the highly-contagious Omicron variant can cause more severe illness for children. What’s for sure is that the coronavirus variant is spreading like wildfire, with or without severe illness.
According to information brought by worldometers.info, the USA is reporting hundreds of thousands of COVID infections every day (about 800,000). Countries like the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and others are reporting terrifying numbers as well.
