Unfortunately, there’s no fooling around when it comes to the wrath of nature. Bad weather is approaching the US, as large parts of the country will be dealing with large amounts of snow, sleet, ice, and freezing rain until Friday. A major winter storm is to blame, according to Gizmodo.
A cold front is moving into the Midwest and the central part of the US. Freezing air from the Arctic region will be backing it up.
Areas from 15 American states are under a winter storm watch
The National Weather Service warns that portions from 15 American States, practically meaning almost a third of the entire USA, are under a winter storm watch. These states range from New Hampshire to New Mexico.
As of Wednesday, a significant part of the middle of the US, including parts of Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Illinois, Misouri, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, is under a winter storm warning.
The Weather Channel warns about what could occur:
Travel will become hazardous because of snow, sleet and/or freezing rain on one or multiple days in these regions through the end of the week. Areas that see significant icing could have at least some power outages and tree damage, especially from parts of north-central Texas and eastern Oklahoma into the Ozarks and portions of the lower Mississippi and Ohio valleys.
A statement from the National Weather Service writes:
Normally, a Winter Storm Watch will be issued in advance of the storm (usually at least 24 hours). It indicates the risk of a hazardous winter weather event has increased (at least a 50% chance of it occurring), but its occurrence, location, and/or timing is still uncertain. It is intended to provide enough lead time so you can make plans to stay safe. While rare for our area, a Blizzard Watch may be issued instead.
