Humanoid robots (aka androids) capable of doing tasks that only humans were capable of doing don’t represent anything new in 2024. In fact, it’s a pretty logical assumption that the world will be governed by humanoid robots in the near future – they will be taking a lot of our jobs, such as those from marketing, education, economics, and a lot more.
But even until these days, humanity has been pretty good at creating humanoid robots capable of amazing things. We are proud to remind you of some of the most amazing androids the world has so far:
Robonaut:
NASA has collaborated with General Motors to create Robonaut, a humanoid robot designed to help astronauts in space explorations way above the Earth’s surface. Robonaut is known for having dexterous fingers and human-like hands, while it can perform important tasks such as equipment maintenance and tool manipulation in the environment of space.
ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility):
ASIMO is one of the most stunning and famous humanoid robots to date, and the guys from Honda are responsible for creating it. This robot stands at 4 feet and 3 inches tall, and it is also equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities and advanced sensors. Thus, ASIMO is capable of navigating complex environments, recognizing faces, and interacting with humans using speech and gestures.
Pepper:
SoftBank Robotics developed Pepper, a very cute humanoid robot that can turn out to be your best friend. That’s because this robot was designed to be good at interacting with humans in various environments, such as airports, retail stores, and homes.
Pepper is equipped with powerful gadgets, such as cameras, speech recognition capabilities, and sensors. This robot can engage in conversations, provide information when needed, and even express emotions using voice and gestures.
iCub:
iCub is another interesting and cute humanoid robot that has been developed by the RobotClub Consortium of the European Union. This robot stands at about 3 feet tall, and it’s equipped with sensors, cameras, and articulated limbs. It is able to interact with the environment and even learn from people it interacts with, as it uses a machine learning algorithm.
TALOS:
TALOS is another humanoid robot that can leave many speechless. It was developed by the University of Tokyo, and it is specialized in disaster response and searching and rescuing missions. TALOS has a robust design and advanced locomotion capabilities, and it can navigate through environments filled with debris to assist humans in emergency situations.
Sophia:
Sophia is a humanoid robot developed by some guys from Hanson Robotics, and it has gained worldwide fame as one of the most convincing such robots ever created. That’s because Sophia is able to communicate with humans with ease, while it also has a very friendly and lifelike appearance. The AI behind this robot’s personality is complex enough to engage in conversations, recognize faces, and even express numerous emotions using facial expressions.
It’s obvious that humanoid robots are becoming a lot more like R2-D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars and a lot less like anything we knew previously. What the future holds for us is something that nobody can possibly know for sure, although it’s fair to predict that humanoid robots will be a lot more predominant in the next decades than they already are.
