World’s fattest woman is 300kgs lighter thanks to Indian hospital

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty had been previously considered the heaviest woman in the world, but thanks to an intervention from doctors in India, she managed to leave their hospital 325 kg lighter than her previous weight. In comparison to her previous weight of 500 kg, she now stands at 176 kg and will hopefully be the beginning of a fresh new life for the Egyptian woman.  Besides this operation, she will undertake physiotherapy for one year at the VPS Burjeel hospital, based in Abu Dhabi.

They had arranged for an Italian-made hydraulic stretcher that assisted her in her journey, as well as paramedics, nurses and doctors. Prior to the surgery, she had been placed into a special liquid-based diet that helped reduce the weight enough so that the doctors could begin the bariatric surgery. This sort of procedure is becoming more common in India which is also facing an increase in obesity in the urban areas. It can be considered a bypass procedure for shrinking the stomach.

Before she had her operation, she hasn’t left her home in Alexandria, Egypt, for about twenty years. She had arrived in India on a modified Airbus plane in the month of February.

In her city, family doctors have diagnosed her as suffering from elephantiasis when she was young. This is a condition that affects limbs and other parts of the body, and it manifests in the form of swelling that can even leave to the person suffering from it to become immobile. On top of this, she has also suffered from a stroke, as well as from a whole host of ailments that have resulted from her weight problems. She had to endure the effects of sleep deprivation, hypertension, diabetes and increased blood pressure.
