The Best Thing You Can Do To Cure A Hangover

Drinking too much can leave you with a hangover, which is the unpleasant combination of a pounding headache, nausea, vomiting and thirst. There are many ways to relieve these symptoms. You might try eating bland foods like crackers or toast, drinking water and taking over-the-counter painkillers (if your stomach can handle them).

The following steps may help you get through the worst of the hangover:

1. Sip fluids. Water might be all that you can keep down until your stomach settles. Drink as much water as you can. It helps your body flush out the alcohol and restore normal functions. Don’t drink too much at once, or you’ll just end up with a full bladder but not much relief. If possible, drink water with electrolytes (like Gatorade) because they replace minerals lost through vomiting or diarrhea.

2. Eat lightly. Avoid greasy food, which will just upset your stomach more. Eat foods high in carbohydrates and protein but low in fat, such as crackers or toast with jam or peanut butter.

3. Rest in a dark and quiet room. Stay in bed as long as you can — don’t set a time limit — and try to sleep it off if you think you can manage it without falling asleep behind the wheel on the way home.

4. Take pain relievers if necessary for your headache or cramps, but remember that aspirin or ibuprofen can irritate an already upset stomach.

5. Lemon is a natural diuretic and helps remove the toxins from your system. Squeeze the juice of one lemon in a glass of warm water and drink it before going to bed. You will wake up with no symptoms of a hangover!

6. Bananas contain potassium, which is often lost with excessive alcohol consumption. A banana helps replace this mineral and reduces the negative effects of alcohol on your body.
