Including Healthy Fats in Your Diet Can Actually Help Reduce Liver Fat

While it might be counterintuitive, a new study reveals that including healthy types of fat in your diet can actually contribute to reducing liver fat. Furthermore, this would be a highly recommended diet habit for people suffering from a fatty liver, as the study entitled Low-Carb, High-Fat Diet Improves A1c, Reduces Liver Fat suggests.

The research team analyzed information from 165 people with ages ranging from 18 to 78, who were suffering from type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The participants in the study were divided into two groups. One had to adopt a low-carb and high-fat diet, while the other maintained a low-fat regime. All the participants were instructed to eat until they felt satiated.

The results of the study showed that the group of people who consumed a high-fat diet ended up reducing their liver fat and improving their diabetes control. Furthermore, Eat This, Not That quoted Dalby Hansen, one of the authors of the study, who stated that the group who relied on a high-fat diet also lost approximately 5.8% of their body weight, without restricting their calorie intake.

However, it is important to note that not all fats are good for your and that you should do some research before deciding to add more fats to your daily habits.

Therefore, you should know that trans or saturated fats are not good for you, which is why you should avoid foods like commercial baked goods, frozen pizza or foods with refrigerated dough, fried foods margarine, but also red meat and dairy products. In general, it is advised to avoid all highly processed foods.

What you should go for instead are unsaturated fats, which are not only healthy but also necessary for the health of your body. Some of the most popular and healthy sources of unsaturated fats are avocado, fish (especially salmon), nuts, seeds, olives and olive oil.
