Vitamins are benefic for your body and they come with many advantages. But scientists continue to discover new things about them even now. A recent British study discovered that vitamin D supplements can halve the risk of severe asthma attacks for asthma sufferers. The research has been funded by the NHS and it was published recently in the Lancet Respiratory Medicine journal
Vitamin D tablets can enhance the effects of the asthma treatment
The experts discovered that taking daily vitamin D tablets and the regular asthma treatment can have incredible effects on asthma patients. We already knew some of the benefic effects of vitamin D, but most persons only know that is very helpful for our muscles and bones. The study also revealed that there was a 30 percent reduction in attacks that require steroids treatment.
These are important discoveries, especially when you consider the fact that asthma is a common illness and that are numerous people who suffer with it. In fact, In New Zealand, more than 520,000 people take asthma medication, while in the United Kingdom, 5.4 million people have this disease. Most importantly, many people die from it. For example, in the UK three people die every day and experts say that at least some of these deaths could are preventable.
“Our results are largely based on data from adults with mild to moderate asthma – children and adults with severe asthma were relatively under-represented in the dataset, so our findings cannot necessarily be generalized to these patient groups at this stage. Further clinical trials are on-going internationally, and we hope to include data from them in a future analysis to determine whether the promise of today’s results is confirmed in an even larger and more diverse group of patients.” Co-author Dr David Jolliffe said.
