At first, the COVID pandemic has been extremely frightening. One of the reasons was that there was no cure for the disease. Meanwhile, humanity managed to come up with both medicine and vaccines to tackle the coronavirus.
And it’s exhilarating to learn that even today, in 2022, medical researchers have new ideas for how to stop COVID in its tracks. Who would have ever guessed that compounds of cannabis, which is also known as the psychoactive drug of marijuana, would be able to stop COVID infection one day?
Cannabis compounds stop COVID from entering human cells
Bloomberg.com writes about a new laboratory study that shows something totally unexpected: cannabis compounds managed to stop the coronavirus from accessing human cells.

Researchers from Oregon State University reveal that chemical screening led to the identification of the two compounds known as cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA).
Richard van Breemen from the Global Hemp Innovation Center of Oregon, declared as quoted by Bloomberg:
These compounds can be taken orally and have a long history of safe use in humans,
They have the potential to prevent as well as treat infection by SARS-CoV-2.
No experiments on humans had been made so far to confirm the lab discovery. However, that doesn’t stop us from being optimistic. It also has to be mentioned that the compounds were tested against the alpha and beta variants of the coronavirus.
Otherwise, there are plenty of medicines that had been used during the ongoing pandemic to treat patients who suffered from COVID. We can mention Dexamethasone, for instance, a medicine that has been used to treat those who are hospitalized after getting infected with the coronavirus.
The new study was published in the Journal of Nature Products.
