The novel coronavirus continues to remain in the spotlight these days. Take a look at the covid treatment Paxlovid and the latest reports about this.
Paxlovid could cut risks for long covid
As you probably know by now, Paxlovid is a 5-day course of antiviral pills from Pfizer. It’s worth noting the fact that this can reduce the risk of hospitalization in patients who are more likely to develop severe illnesses.
It’s been just reported the fact that now, researchers from the Veterans Health Administration find that taking the medication may also reduce the risks of later developing long covid. Thuis was discovered in a study that was posted online this weekend and has not yet undergone peer review.
“We’ve already known for some time now that Paxlovid reduces the risk of acute problems,” says Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, chief of research and development at the VA Saint Louis Healthcare System, and co-author of the study, “Now we are adding the observation that Paxlovid also reduces the risk of long COVID.”
It’s also worth noting the fact that the drug has been available in the U.S. for almost a year. It is provided for free by the federal government at pharmacies across the country. It requires a prescription, and patients who are infected with the novel coronavirus and who developed the disease called covid must start it within five days of symptom onset.
Covid in the news
The Pfizer covid vaccine should have been removed off the market following the first deaths were reported, according to an expert cardiologist. Check out dr. Peter McCullough’s tweet below.
Pfizer/BNT had duty to pull it off the market when the death reports started to come in shortly after its ill-fated release on the public market. Many companies would have done it in January or February of 2021 at the very latest before more recipients lost their lives. pic.twitter.com/zcWnn2rZAK
