Terrible weight loss drugs effects

A number of lawsuits have been filed against pharma companies Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, alleging that their weight loss drugs, including Ozempic,

Wegovy, Rybelsus, Trulicity, and Mounjaro, failed to provide sufficient warning about potential gastrointestinal side effects. These drugs are GLP-1 receptor agonist (RA) medications that are mainly prescribed for treating type 2 diabetes and can also help certain overweight people to lose weight.

Plaintiffs claim that they suffered various gastrointestinal injuries due to using these drugs, including gastroparesis, a condition in which the stomach doesn’t empty properly.

On Friday, a U.S. judicial panel decided to centralize the various cases into a single multidistrict litigation (MDL).

The lawsuits claim that the companies failed to adequately warn users and doctors about the dangerous potential gastrointestinal side effects of the drug.

“While the efficacy of these drugs is great, the off-label marketing and promotion for unindicated use is rampant like I’ve never seen,” said Cameron Stephenson, an attorney from law firm Levin Papantonio Rafferty (LPR) who is representing several claimants in the lawsuits, according to a Feb. 2 press release by LPR.
GLP-1 RA drugs imitate a natural human hormone called glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) to slow down the digestion process of food in the stomach. People who have gastroparesis may suffer from repeated vomiting, dehydration, difficulty controlling blood sugar levels, and malnutrition due to poor absorption of nutrients.

These consequences can be life-threatening. Mr. Stephenson predicted that the severity of these injuries is not yet fully understood.

The lawsuits filed also claim that the plaintiffs suffered from other gastrointestinal issues, such as ileus and intestinal obstructions. Ileus is a condition where the intestines can’t push food and waste out of the body.
