There’s no negotiating with nature’s wrath, and sometimes we have to learn that the hard way. Mount Etna’s volcano is a good example. Although it was dormant for a pretty long time, the volcano from Sicily (Italy) has awakened once again in 2021 with great power. When under a volcanic warning, citizens must avoid driving under heavy ash fall, follow evacuation and shelter orders, and so on.

The San Gregorio di Catania rugby ground from Sicily was the main protagonist setting in a new video that went viral on social media. You can see the kids playing with a ball and the volcanic eruption in the background:

As you can see, a stream of molten lava pours down the eastern flank of Etna, while a large plume of smoke remains in the air.

Being in a state of eruption since ten years ago

Newsweek.com writes about the violent eruption that occurred on Mount Etna recently, also adding that lava fountains from the Southeast Crater rim have reached almost a mile in height. The huge amount of smoke resulted is even visible from space.

In a post made on NASA’s Earth Observatory website, the space agency stated that “even experienced Etna watchers have been wowed by the intensity of the volcano’s unrest.”

Marco Neri, who’s a volcanologist with Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, declared: “The most recent novelty is that the last six eruptive paroxysms were among the most violent in the Southeast Crater’s young history.”

Mount Etna, or Etna, is an active stratovolcano located on the east coast of Sicily, Italy. More precisely, the location is in the Metropolitan City of Catania, meaning between the cities of Messina and Catania. The highest point from Mount Etna reaches 3,326 metres, while the whole area is about equal to 1,190 km².
