If it ever happened to you that friends are considering you boring, you may feel a lot better after reading this article. Not everybody is good at keeping others entertained or even interested in a certain topic. But even so, finding the most boring person who exists can be very challenging.
SciTechDaily.com writes about new research done by scientists from the University of Essex that have found the most boring person in the world after considering the jobs, hobbies, and characteristics that are associated with boredom. Over 500 people were assessed in the study led by the Department of Psychology’s Dr. Wijnand Van Tilburg, and we finally have a winner.
Religious data entry worker from a small town receives the designation
It turns out that a data entry worker from a small town who’s also a religious person is now recognized as the most boring fellow. According to the study, the most boring hobbies are religion, bird watching, smoking, and watching TV.
Van Tilburg explained as SciTechDaily.com quotes:
The irony is studying boredom is actually very interesting and has many real-life impacts.
These paper shows how persuasive perceptions of boredom are and what an impact this can have on people. Perceptions can change but people may not take time to speak to those with ‘boring’ jobs and hobbies, instead choosing to avoid them. They don’t get a chance to prove people wrong and break these negative stereotypes.
Unsurprisingly, he also let the world know that being avoided just because you’re boring isnt good for your health:
The very fact that people choose to avoid them can lead to social ostracization and increase loneliness leading to a really negative impact on their lives.
The new study was published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
