A man has discovered one of the Vikings’ most valuable treasures with a metal detector.
Derek McLennan has discovered an treasure from 10’s century that includes silver bracelets, brooches, gold rings and other valuable items, informs The Guardian.
The man handed the treasure to the authorities of the Scottish National Museum, which will give him a £1.98 million reward.
David Harvie, of Queen’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer (QLTR), said the treasure of Gallowey has a huge international significance, being “one of the most important discoveries in Scotland”.
“I am happy to announce that these wonderful items will be allocated to the Scottish National Museum, and the reward will be attributed to the finder,” said Harvie. The most important items of the treasure are silver, textiles and “a number of precious metal objects”, all of which have Byzantine origins.
