This Box Jellyfish is So Venomous But Extremely Rare

Can you believe that there’s a box jellyfish so rare that it’s never been seen before, only once? Divers off the coast of Queensland, Australia, back in 2022, captured footage of a spectacular yet terrifying marine monster known as the box jellyfish, which is an exceptionally uncommon kind of jellyfish. This enormous jellyfish is referred to as Chirodectes maculatus. It is a form of box jellyfish, which gets its name from the shape of its body. On the other hand, despite the fact that it can be appealing, there is more to it than meets the eye.

There is actually a wide range of possibilities when it comes to the maximum size of an adult box jellyfish. It is possible for its body to be in the shape of a box and measure up to 20 centimeters on each side, giving it an approximate diameter of 30 centimeters. On the other hand, its tentacles are capable of growing to an astonishing length of three meters in length. It is possible for it to weigh up to 2 kilos at its heaviest. Impressive!

This is not your typical venom; instead, it is a complex chemical concoction that was developed for the purpose of effective assault and self-defense (ouch!). This should serve as a good reminder that there is plenty about marine life that we still don’t know much about, right?!
