Ted-Jan Bloemen is a Canadian speed skater who competes at the 2018 Winter Olympics which are held in Peyongchang, South Korea. What’s really unique about him is that he is the first athlete paid in cryptocurrency, in the history.
ONG Social and CEEK VR are the athlete’s sponsors
As he was going to the Winter Olympics he managed to sign to sponsorship deals, one with the ONG Social (a cryptocurrency community and a social network) and another one with CEEK VR (virtual reality developer).
Everyone knows that in some sports there is hard to get good sponsorship deals to cover all the expenses an athlete has. However, Ted-Jan Bloeman found a niche and accepted to be paid in cryptocurrency instead of fiat money.
Ted-Jan Bloeman is holding two world records in speed skating and plans to play in a 360-degrees VR experience with its sponsors at CEEK VR and to use the ONG Social network to share his experiences at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
In return, he will get cryptocurrency.
Appreciation comes from CEEK VR’s CEO
The founder and the CEO of CEEK VR, Mary Spio appreciated Bloeman for being open-mind and for being such supportive with new technologies.
“Bloemen’s support for cutting-edge technologies is reflective of his proclivity for pushing the boundaries,” said Mary Sapio.
The crypto marked doesn’t scare Bloeman
Bloeman is not afraid by the extreme volatility the cryptocurrencies market showed in the past weeks. He is even excited about getting his “checks” in crypto coins and that he has found two new teammates that will assist him in his uptrend.
Bloeman, in return, posted the following on his Twitter page:
“I’m very excited to be the first ever #Crypto sponsored athlete. Thanks @CEEK #VirtualReality and @Ong_Social for being at the forefront of technology and this great achievement. Looking forward to a great relationship and the exciting times ahead.”
