The 5G technology is vastly superior to 4G, not to mention the other networks. Internet becomes significantly faster with 5G, but even so, not everybody is happy about the new network’s implementation. You certainly have heard about those who aren’t fans of the 5G technology, but this time it’s about something much more serious than conspiracy theories.
Major US airlines are now concerned about the future implementation of 5G near airports, claiming that transportation and the economy would suffer. As a result, they demand “immediate intervention” from the Biden administration in the planned 5G implementation, according to CNN. They demand the delay of the 5G technology rollout.
Possible interferences with aviation technology
The reason behind the concern is that 5G signals would interfere with technology specific to aviation, such as radar altimeter onboard planes.
The executives said, as quoted by CNN:
The ripple effects across both passenger and cargo operations, our workforce and the broader economy are simply incalculable,
To be blunt, the nation’s commerce will grind to a halt.
United Airlines even fears a devastating impact of the 5G rollout for aviation if the technology will be rolled out near airports. The airline stated, as quoted by CNN:
When deployed next to runways, the 5G signals could interfere with the key safety equipment that pilots rely on to take off and land in inclement weather.
The bandwidth and speed of the 5G technology allow it to provide big improvements when it comes to virtual reality, augmented reality, and 3D holograms. This automatically creates opportunities to make people connect with each other far beyond what’s possible with current cellular technology.
