Cameron Underwood is a 26 years old man who suffered extensive facial injuries due to a self-inflicted gunshot. Fortunately, this tragedy didn’t take his life, but it caused him the chance to have a normal existence.
The man lost most of his lower jaw, nose and an important part of his upper face. Because of this, simple actions like eating or breathing became a nightmare for Underwood.

In fact, when his mother found out about Dr. Eduardo D Rodriguez’s pioneering work in the area of face transplant, Camerton Underwood knew that this is his chance to live a normal life again.

Dr. Rodriguez and his team are working in the Face Transplant Program at the NYU Langone. They performed a 25-hour surgery on Cameron Underwood after the man went through some preparation stages.
He waited for 18 months since the injury occurred until they found a donor at the hospital. This year in January the patient had to fly to New York for the complicated procedure which will make his life easier.
Cameron had the 2nd face transplant ever performed at NYU Langone. This time things went smoother and faster, because the team finished 11 hour earlier than in the previous case.
Even if the procedure was very complex, Cameron’s recovery was remarkably fast. He could see his new face in the mirror after 10 days and three months later he returned home.
Now that the recovery is complete and Cameron’s life is back on track, he agrees to share photos of him before and after the surgery. He is very grateful to the donor and his family for giving him a second chance. The young man wants his story to serve as inspiration for all those people who face difficulties and inspire them to always fight for a better life.
