Smoking Marijuana Can Cause Severe Illness for Teenagers via Newfound Lung Disease

It’s worrying that too many people, especially the young ones, are deceiving themselves, thinking that smoking marijuana is not harmful to their health. Nobody denies that the custom may have some benefits, but you should also take into account what a new study has to say on the matter.

CNN writes about the new study led by Carol Boyd, who’s also co-director of the Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking & Health from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Smoking cigarettes or e-cigarettes also represents a bad habit, according to Boyd, but the study tells us that those who choose marijuana are exposed to even greater health risks.

Marijuana causes lung injury for teenagers

If you’re well-aware of “wheezing or whistling” happening in your chest, there’s a good chance that those unpleasant symptoms are caused by vaping marijuana. Boyd emphasizes the researchers’ astonishment due to the new study:

This surprised us, we thought we would find more negative respiratory symptoms in both cigarettes and e-cigarettes users.

While writing an email to CNN, Carol Boyd also declared:

Since many teens who vape nicotine also vape cannabis, I recommend parents treat all vaping as a risky behavior (just like alcohol or drug use).

Marijuana smokers can even get affected by a newly discovered lung disease called EVALI. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) discovered the disease in August 2019. At that time, young patients who didn’t suffer from other diseases started to get hospitalized for severe long infections that even resulted in some deaths. Boyd also reveals the following terrifying fact:

According to the CDC, 84% of the EVALI cases were associated with cannabis-containing products.

The link between vaping and the new lung disease was found, and vitamin E acetate plays a major role. The sticky oil substance is used for vaping products to dilute or thicken the oil from cartridges.
