Coronavirus Breakthrough: New Test Offers Results In 20 Minutes

There’s a new rapid test that is telling users within 20 minutes whether they have contracted the coronavirus – this is tested in the U.K. at the moment. If this is successful, other countries that include the U.S. could be using the new COVID-19 LAMP assay test that’s been developed by Optigen, which is a U.K.-based manufacturer.

This comes some days after the Trump administration promoted a similar test that was made by the U.S.-based pharmaceuticals giant Abbot Laboratories ABT, +0.33% as a key factor that’s controlling the epidemic in the U.S.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, on the other hand, made sure to warn the public about the reliability of the Abbott ID NOW test, warning: “We are still evaluating the information about inaccurate results and are in direct communications with Abbott about this important issue.”

Britain’s health minister ordered 10 million antibody tests

This week, Britain’s health minister, Matt Hancock said that he ordered 10 million antibody tests from the Swiss pharamaetucircal giant Roche Diagnostics.

Hancock said the following: “Innovative science has its risks — lots of projects don’t come off. But it is worth backing things before you know if they are going to work. I make no apologies for that.”

It’s important to mention the fact that trials of the new rapid coronavirus test are returning results in 20 minutes; these began in Hampshire, in southern England during this week.

The best thing about this test would have to be the fact that the results come in instantly, and there’s no need for test samples to be sent to a lab in order to be processed.

This means that people with symptoms are given immediate certainty as to whether they have the virus or not. This means that they can rapidly follow advice to stay positive or they are free to return to work.
