Pfizer develops covid pill

Mikael Dolsten, Pfizer’s chief scientific officer, says that during the SARS outbreak in 2003, company scientists had begun to search for ways to combat that coronavirus.

In particular, they looked for proteins crucial for the virus to replicate once it infected someone. Pfizer focused on protein virus needs for replication, according to the publication.
One viral protein they focused on is called a protease.

“We have learned that protease is a key regulator for the virus to unleash its machinery and hijack the human cells,” Dolsten said.

It’s been revealed that Pfizer scientists thought if they could find a compound that would disrupt the protease, it would essentially stop the virus dead in its tracks.

That search petered out when the 2003 SARS outbreak passed.

The Omicron covid variant has been making headlines a lot lately. Check out the latest reports that have been revealed by The Wall Street Journal.

It’s been revealed that early laboratory studies suggest that a Covid-19 antibody treatment developed by GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Vir Biotechnology Inc. is effective against the Omicron variant.

This sets it apart from similar therapies that appear to work less well against the highly mutated strain.

There are some measures that are taken in various countries regarding covid vaccines that are making some people outraged. The latest reports coming from Greece are such an example.
