Experts have researched cancer for a really long time, and everyone is looking for the cure for the most terrible disease. Or at least a way to stop the spreading of the cancerous cells. Check out the latest promising reports about the matter below.
Cancer growth could eventually be stopped
The latest discovery made by experts looks very promising.
The latest research in the industry reveals new research that has been able to find the fact that food could play a major role in stopping the growth of some cancers.
It was previously thought diet had no impact on tumors, but a team of SAHMRI and University of Adelaide researchers, led by Dr. Daniel Thomas, has turned that theory on its head.
It’s important to mention the fact that this study was a collaboration with Stanford University and has recently been published in Cancer Discovery.
The study that we mentioned above and everyone’s addressing these days showed cancers with IDH1 gene mutations can’t grow without lipids. Just in case you don’t know, this is a group of “naturally occurring molecules, namely fats, contained in various foods such as butter and ice-cream.”
“We replicated the results in a range of cancer types, comparing a regular diet with one that was completely fat-free and were surprised to find tumors with IDH1 were stopped in their tracks when starved of lipids,” Dr. Thomas said.
He continued and explained the following:
“Unlike other tumors, cancers with IDH1 mutations are addicted to lipids, they need to eat them and they need to make them from scratch.”
It’s also important to mention the fact that the IDH1 gene mutation is a terrible mutation that reprograms the cell and is commonly found in the following types of cancer:
“the blood cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, bone cancer called chondrosarcoma, bile duct cancer, and low-grade glioma, a type of brain cancer,” according to the same reports that we mentioned above.
It’s great to learn that Dan’s team keeps finding hidden weaknesses in IDH1 cancers that can be exploited to cure patients. In order to learn more details about this important matter, we suggest that you check out the complete original article posted by Medical Xpress.
