New Key To Eliminate Covid-19 Symptoms Is Revealed

Covid hit the world back in 2020, and since then, people have been terrified at the word, at the effects of the disease and also at the vaccines’ effects. Check out some relieving news about the new discoveries on some new treatments.

New covid 19 relief

Scientists have made a surprising discovery that links galectin-3, a protein usually produced in our bodies, to the exacerbation and prolongation of COVID-19 symptoms. Galectin-3 is responsible for fueling out-of-control inflammation, which allows the virus to evade the body’s defenses.

The rogue protein has been a challenge for scientists to control, but there is now hope for COVID-19 patients through new treatments that use naturally occurring modified fruit pectin and targeted drugs. These treatments aim to tame galectin-3 and provide relief.

Galectin-3 is a protein discovered in 1971 that regulates inflammation and binds to pathogens, helping the body’s immune system respond to threats. However, it often overreacts and causes excessive inflammation, particularly in diseases like cancer, autoimmune disorders, and heart disease.

Researchers don’t fully understand why galectin-3 spikes when the body is under attack, according to the new reports.

But they see its overabundance as an immune dysfunction marker that prolongs illness.

“The constant increase in the number of papers published in the most recent years and concerning the role of this protein in many clinical conditions and diseases testify the great clinical relevance of [galectin-3] in human pathophysiology,” authors of a 2018 research paper published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences wrote.

It has been theorized by researchers that the levels of galectin-3 increase during the onset of COVID-19. This led to a study exploring whether it could be used as a marker for disease severity.

In a 2023 publication in Scientific Reports, 280 patients were categorized based on the severity of their condition, ranging from mild to critical.

As expected, patients classified as critical showed significantly higher levels of galectin-3 and other inflammatory cells compared to those with milder cases.

“Modified citrus pectin—a natural dietary fiber—shows promise against galectin-3 overyielding. One study demonstrated it suppressed cancerous tumor growth. Another revealed it reduced severity in kidney patients by binding and disarming galectin-3,” the notes reveal.
