Miracle Drug Cures A Woman’s Bowel Cancer

We’re really happy to announce that a miraculous drug has been able to cure a woman’s bowel cancer. Check out the latest reports about this.

Miracle drug cures bowel cancer

According to the BBC, a woman named Carrie Downey was treated with a drug known as a “miracle”, which resulted in her being cancer-free. The drug, dostarlimab, helped her overcome stage three bowel cancer in just six months. Carrie is among the few people worldwide who have been given the drug for bowel cancer.

Although the drug is still undergoing clinical trials, early data has shown a 100% success rate in treating a specific variant of the disease.

Bowel cancer affects approximately 42,000 people in the UK each year.

Recently, early trials have demonstrated that the drug, dostarlimab, can effectively treat 3% to 5% of bowel cancers that have a specific gene mutation. However, only Wales and Italy have approved dostarlimab as a standard treatment for the disease thus far.

Carrie, a 42-year-old woman from Port Talbot, discovered she had bowel cancer while seeking treatment for pain caused by a previous hernia mesh implant.

Unfortunately, an operation to remove the tumor would have resulted in a permanent stoma. Instead, Carrie received dostarlimab infusions for six months.

Afterward, subsequent tests revealed no evidence of cancer in her body..

“I’m just so thankful to Dr Barrington and his team that I got the chance and that he had looked into the mutation and looking at these new therapies,” she said.

“He has given me my life back. I will be forever grateful to him.”

Dr Barrington said: “I’ve been blown away by the results. I accept the numbers are small so far, and it’s early phase data, but to get 100% complete response in a drug which is well tolerated and works incredibly quickly is unheard of in oncological care.

“Patients report even after their first treatment their symptoms have disappeared. It’s just remarkable.”

Let’s hope that medical advancements continue in order to give people their lives back.
