Fears Of Delta Variant, On The Rise – Here’s What World Leaders Are Doing

The novel coronavirus continues to ravage the world, and the Delta variant is now all over the headlines.

Yahoo News notes that the German Chancellor Angela Merkel “did it.”

They note that so did Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Italian Premier Mario Draghi.

The article that we’re talking about notes that these important people bucked the advice of health agencies and mixed their COVID-19 vaccines after doubts about the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca version against the Delta variant began circulating.

We’ve already reported that the highly transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus which is causing the disease Covid 19 is now lingering in 124 countries, and it will soon become the dominant strain globally in the upcoming months.

This strain is reportedly outcompeting other variants, according to the WHO.

Mixing vaccines

They also note that this is already a growing trend across Europe, and these three leaders got a dose of an adenovirus vaccine (AstraZeneca) before switching to an mRNA vaccine for the second.

“Merkel and Trudeau took Moderna’s COVID jab for their follow-up shot, while Draghi opted for Pfizer, overlooking the advice from agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who warn against treating the vaccines as interchangeable,” Yahoo News wrote.

This sort of mixing and matching is an off-label practice that is not currently endorsed by the WHO, but it’s a common practice in Canada and other 15 European countries.
