10 Minutes of Workout Could Be Lifesaving for Specific Group of People

If you haven’t been living in a cave or on another planet until now, you surely have heard about the amazing benefits that physical exercise can have for an individual’s health. Practicing it can lead to some enormous benefits, including for our mental health. If you’re dealing with episodes of anxiety, depression, or stress, doing some workout at least a few minutes a day is the way to get rid of them!

But physical exercises could be even a lot more important for our lives than we all knew already. According to a new study that CNN writes about, engaging in such kind of activity for 10 minutes per day, if you’re over 40 years of age, could be lifesaving.

10 minutes of physical exercise per day could have saved over 110,000 Americans per year

Ten minutes of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity is all that you need if you’re over 40. Over 110,000 deaths from the US per year could have been easily prevented in this way, as the new study claims. Furthermore, increasing to 20 or 30 minutes could be even more lifesaving, as the study noted.

Accelerator data was used that was recorded by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The participants were 6 years old and older, and their data was gathered between 2003 and 2006. Five thousand participants of ages between 40 and 85 were examined for their activity levels. Death rates were tracked through the end of 2015.

Pedro Saint-Maurice, the first author of the study, declared as quoted by CNN:

We have reported previously that even a little bit of exercise can result in health benefits,

This study doesn’t focus on the benefits for individuals, but rather at the level of the population. We can make our nation healthier by encouraging everyone to add an additional 10 minutes of activity or more each day.

The new research was published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.
