Those who are willing to be witnessing a majestic celestial show can easily count on the Geminid meteor shower that will peak on mid-December. Hundreds of shooting stars will delight the eyes of those living in the US. More precisely, Colorado will seem more coloured than ever, as the residents of the American state will get to enjoy the celestial show at its highest level of beauty.
Colorado will be part of one of the most spectacular cosmic shows of the year, as the meteors will be numerous, bright, and yellow-coloured.
Be aware between December 4 and December 17
This is the span when the upcoming meteor shower will be unfolding itself. Bill Cooke, who is the lead for NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office, raises the stakes by saying:
It will be the best meteor shower of 2020, no question about it.
There’s no wonder why experts are so excited about the upcoming meteor shower. At its peak, Geminid is able to produce up to 120 shooting stars each hour. This means that you cannot afford to be late for the show! Furthermore, you won’t even need a telescope to witness the cosmic beauty.
The peak is set for December 13-14
Those willing to witness the meteor shower at its maximum best will have to stay awake and aware for the mid-Sunday evening, December 13 until the early Monday morning, December 14.
Wikipedia informs us that the Geminids are classified as a prolific meteor shower caused by 3200 Phaethon, a Palladian asteroid that features a “rock comet” orbit. It means that both the Geminids and the Quadrantids are the only major meteor showers that aren’t originating from a comet.
One of the best things about the Geminid meteor shower is that you don’t even need a ticket for the show. The Universe offers us a lot of free things, and we should be grateful for that every day.
I’m a gemini and I can’t wait to see this
