There are way too many people out there claiming to have spotted UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects), and there have always been. While many of such sightings can simply be attributed to all kinds of physical causes, as well as to human imagination going wild, it may not be the case of all UFOs that were ever seen. Therefore, space agencies indeed need to get serious about UFOs.
NASA seems to have understood the aspect very well since it will soon launch a study on UFOs that will be led by astrophysicist David Spergel, according to apnews.com. The space agency wants to find out the exact amount of info available on UFOs. Also, another goal is to understand the very nature of these phenomena by gathering even more info.
The study on UFOs will last nine months
NASA will begin its study on UFOs in the upcoming fall, and it’s expected to last for nine months.
Spergel explained as NASA’s website quotes:
Given the paucity of observations, our first task is simply to gather the most robust set of data that we can,
We will be identifying what data — from civilians, government, nonprofits, companies — exists, what else we should try to collect, and how to best analyze it.
Spergel also emphasized that the emergence of UFOs can have multiple explanations. He also stated as apnews.com quotes:
We have to approach all these questions with a sense of humility,
I spent most of my career as a cosmologist. I can tell you we don’t know what makes up 95% of the universe. So there are things we don’t understand.
By ‘UFO,’ we can refer to any object that flies and hasn’t been identified yet. Even a balloon can qualify for a UFO until you find out that it’s just a balloon. Therefore, UFOs aren’t necessarily spaceships guided by other civilizations from other planets.
