Huge brands are involved, such as Mercedez-Benz, General Motors, Volvo, and more. Signatories will have to work hard to make all the new cars be zero-emissions until 2040 or even earlier. For leading markets, the threshold is set for 2035 and earlier.
The new declaration says:
We recognise that alongside the shift to zero emission vehicles, a sustainable future for road transport will require wider system transformation, including support for active travel, public and shared transport, as well as addressing the full value chain impacts from vehicle production, use and disposal.
According to PolicyAdvice.net, there are 5.6 million electric vehicles in the world. According to Ecology.wa.gov, vehicle pollutants not only harm our health but will also lead to climate change. Many harmful byproducts are created by the burning of diesel and gasoline fuel. On the list, we can find benzene, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde, and hydrocarbons. Vehicles can also emit carbon dioxide.
