2017 was an intense year, and it appears that things are not easier if we consider global warming. In fact, last year was the second-hottest year in recorded history according to NASA, while for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration it was the third hottest year, and that is because they use different technologies to calculate global temperatures.
Nevertheless, it is obvious that things are not getting better when it comes to climate change. “The planet is warming remarkably uniformly,” declared Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies
Trump administration
If you think that things cannot get any worse, it appears that the Trump administration is not ready to make things any better. In fact, climate change will probably get even worse thanks to Trump. The latest actions are definitely harmful for the environment. First of all, the Clean Power Plan has been repealed and the administration is planning to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.
“The record temperature should focus the minds of world leaders, including President Trump, on the scale and urgency of the risks that people, rich and poor, face around the world from climate change.”
The fact that 2017 was such a hot year is even more concerning if we take into consideration the fact that this year was not substantially influenced by the periodic El Niño phenomenon, which is supposed to release warmth from the Pacific Ocean.
Other natural disasters
High temperatures are not the only negative consequence. If we take a look at the previous year we can see that the United States were affected by numerous disasters. There have been multiple hurricanes and wildfires, and all these led to numerous victims and material losses.
