Elon Musk announces universal high income
Elon Musk just shared a comment on his X account, triggering various comments. He posted that there will be a universal high income, also explaining that it will be not “not basic.”

People haven’t necessarily received the news in good spirits, being anxious about what this could mean.
Someone brought up the exponential rise of AI, saying that there will be fewer and fewer jobs available for people, as robots will be able to do all of them better. The person said that global income is inevitable if AI improves at the rate technology has been doing it in the recent past.
Another follower said that there are 3.5 billion robots, and AI software/hardware to replace an expanding population. The follower said that there will be work in installing and building it all.

Someone else said: “Based on my recent observations on X, with the development of AI, there are several professions that are about to be phased out: taxi drivers, translators (including simultaneous interpreters), lyricists and composers.”
Official notes explain that “A Universal High Income can be evolved version of universal basic income (UBI), as it is commonly known, has been experimenting in several communities recently. UBI plans, in their perfect world, would provide a fixed amount of guaranteed cash income to every citizen, unrestricted by spending.”
A follower said: “With the leverage we can get from AI, fusion, and robotics, the diamond age is upon us. If society weren’t so dog-eat-dog, there would be no problem. It’s entirely up to us how this goes down. But down it goes.”
“It’s hard to say exactly what that moment is, but there will come a point where no job is needed,” Musk told U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. He continued and said: “You can have a job if you want to have a job or sort of personal satisfaction, but the AI will be able to do everything.”
All this is indeed mind-blowing with the rising technologies at such a rapid pace, and all we can do is to hope for the best.
A universal high income would be interesting, but I for one, cannot imagine a world where people stopped working, or, in some way, being useful for their community and others. People should still be able to work and to make themselves useful in this world, one way or the other.
