Krispy Kreme Made Limited-Edition Mars Doughnuts To Mark The NASA Rover Landing!

NASA’s Perseverance rover will go through the so-called “seven minutes of terror” on February 18 as it tries to land itself on the red planet. However, that can make for quite a show for us – We can sit back and watch the NASA footage.

Landing an SUV-sized rover on Mars is very uncommon. The last rover that we put on Mars was Curiosity in 2012. The stationary InSight lander reached its destination in 2018.

To commemorate the rare event, Krispy Kreme will be offering a limited-edition-themed doughnut only available this Thursday.

The Mars doughnut is shaped and decorated to resemble the red planet itself.

The caramel-covered and chocolate cream-filled dessert features a swirl topping that looks a lot like mars. Also, there are chocolate cookie crumbs that make the desert look even more convincing.

There is even more good news! If you submitted your name in NASA’s “Send Your Name to Mars” campaign, which got nearly 11 million names aboard the rover before it left for its trip to Mars, you can bring your “boarding pass” and claim a free Mars Doughnut at Krispy Kreme.

Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme chief marketing officer, stated:

“The landing of Perseverance on Mars will be an epic and important achievement. […] So, we’re celebrating the best way we know how: with an amazing new doughnut discovery right here on earth.”

The rover is expected to land on Martian soil at approximately 3:55 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The rover began its space journey at the end of July, when it was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. When it reaches its target, it will have traveled approximately 292.5 million miles.
