The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is a federal agency under the Department of Transportation, led by Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The FAA employs around 45,000 individuals and is responsible for regulating civil aviation. In an effort to promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA), the organization is currently seeking to hire individuals with severe mental disabilities, psychiatric conditions, and physical disabilities.

The FAA’s website stated:

“Targeted disabilities are those disabilities that the Federal government, as a matter of policy, has identified for special emphasis in recruitment and hiring. They include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism”.

One effective recruiting strategy for positions that require accommodations for people with disabilities is the “On-the-Spot” special appointment authority.

This strategy allows an individual to be appointed without any competition while being granted all the benefits of the position.

The organization has mentioned that the candidates who wish to be employed through this non-competitive process must be prepared to provide their academic transcripts, references, and resumes.

Additionally, they must submit any necessary supporting documents for their disability.

Recently, all eyes have been on the FAA and the airline industry after a door plug on a Boeing 737 Max 9 blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight on January 5.

Check out the complete original notes in order to learn more details about the shocking decision, which has also been addressed by Elon Musk.
