A Day at Fantasy Mills Became Fatal for a Swimmer

It was just another day for Eddie Gray when he decided to go at the Fantasy Lake water park in Hope Mills, North Carolina. But that day would be his last. Horror and tragedy like never before stroke the water park, a beautiful place for fun, now a tragic one.

Fantasy Lake water park finds its origins back to 1983, situated on a 6-acre location in North Carolina, Hope Mills. Opened as a place where people could visit and enjoy many land and water attractions, Fantasy Lake also offers people the opportunity to take part in different fun activities even for families. Being perfect for families with kids, the water park never gave the wrong impression, receiving only good reviews.

That’s when something bad really happened and destroyed its reputation completely. Eddie Gray chose to spend his day at the fun place, never guessing how his day would end. He lost his life by swimming in Fantasy Lake’s waters. He got really sick and after his death the statement was declared. Rare brain-eating amoeba killed him.

What is after all this amoeba thing? Amoebas are some organisms whose bodies sometimes contain a single cell. The cells too, contain some intriguing features. They consist of some specialized formations, known as organelles. Ok, but how could this thing kill a man? The amoeba prefers to live in warm, even hot waters, including lakes and rivers. They may also be found in swimming pools that were not properly cleaned.

Scientists says that amoebas go to the brain through the nose, so people don’t become infected by swallowing water. When they arrived in the brain, they start to destroy the brain tissue, and then finally, the complete damage, which means death, happens. Infection with this thing is almost always fatal.

Going back to our case, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the fact that the man died from the Naegleria fowleri, exactly that kind of amoeba who prefers warm waters. The officials from North Carolina go further with the investigations at Fantasy Lake because they want to give fully protection in the future.
