Winter Snacks: Here’s What You Should Eat To Stay Healthy

Winter may be the season of staying in and snuggling up, but that doesn’t mean you have to hibernate for the next few months. Planned activity is important for all of us, but if you’re physically active year-round, it’s especially crucial to keep your mind and body active over the winter months.

Because your body needs fuel to stay warm, winter is a great time to make sure you’re eating for optimal health — so that you can stay active and fit no matter how cold it gets outside. Here are some of our top tips for staying healthy on the inside during the winter months.

  • Drink your veggies! Winter is the perfect time to enjoy hearty soups and stews made with vegetables packed with nutrients. Vegetables are high in fiber and water content, which will help keep your digestive system working well — and they tend to be lower in calories than heavy foods like meat or cheese. You don’t have to go full-on vegetarian (although we certainly support that), but increasing your level of plant-based eating during this season is a good idea.
  • Dried fruits. Dried fruits can be an excellent source of vitamins A, B and C as well as potassium. This makes dried fruits a great choice for winter snacking when you are looking to add some healthy nutrients to your diet. Dried fruits contain very little in the way of carbohydrates or fat and are usually high in fiber as well. This makes dried fruits an excellent energy booster for those who are looking for a quick snack that will get them through the afternoon without feeling sluggish.
  • Nuts. Almonds, cashews and walnuts are packed with healthy fats, which are good for your heart. They also contain protein that your body needs to help you feel full. Many nuts are low in calories too, which makes them a great snack choice
