According to the statement, the company presented new data that shows that the Covid-19 vaccine offers long-lasting and robust protection against the virus. The booster shot increases protection, and the trials showed that a second jab is easily tolerated.
Mathai Mammen, M.D, Ph.D. Global Head, Janssen Research & Development, Johnson & Johnson, explained that a single dose offers strong protection against the Covid-19 virus and that the booster shot increases the protection. It is also expected that the duration of protection increases as well. The pharmaceutical company has sent all data to the FDA, and they will soon send it to other health regulators, such as the WHO and NITAGs.
One dose of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine offers 79% protection against Covid-19 infections
A real-world study showed that a single dose offers 79% protection against infections related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and 81% protection against severe infection cases requiring hospitalization. The study analyzed data from 390,000 people vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine and compared it against more than 1.52 million unvaccinated people.
Booster shots administered after two months offer 94% protection
A Phase 3 study showed that administering a second shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine offers 100% protection against severe and critical Covid-19 infections during the first 14 days post-vaccination. It offered 75% protection against moderate and severe symptoms in the U.S. Antibodies levels raised four to six times after the booster shot was administered.
This is excellent news for all those vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as they will be able to receive booster shots, much like those vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna.
