The apocalyptic scenarios caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continue in India, the second most populated country in the world after China. On Tuesday (April 27), India reported its deadliest day of the pandemic, as the country reached 3,293 deaths caused by the coronavirus over a 24 hour period.

Over 200,000 COVID deaths reported
On Wednesday (April 28), India reached another apocalyptic milestone: over 200,000 souls left this world after losing the battle with the COVID-19 disease. The massive surge of infections are overwhelming the hospitals from India, and there are widespread shortages of beds and medical oxygen. Many patients and their relatives are desperately searching for hospitals and intensive care units. Even crematoriums are running low on space, and funerals are being held in parks, parking lots, and other temporary cremation places.
According to data provided by the Indian Ministry of Health, India reported over 360,000 new COVID infections on Tuesday, breaking another negative record. Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, said:
It is supremely contagious and those who are contracting it are not able to recover as swiftly. In these conditions, intensive care wards are in great demand.
Dr. Siddharth Sridhar, who is a clinical virologist from the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong, explained for NBC News how the situation in India could become so horrible:
