Coronavirus has taken our normality as we used to know it away, and the whole world is struggling to get back to a normal life, or a “new normal”, how some experts are calling it.
It’s more than obvious that this can only be done with the help of viable treatments and effective vaccines that can put the novel coronavirus where it belongs – in the past.
Pfizer is working on a treatment
Speaking of treatments, just the other day, we were revealing that Pfizer’s experimental oral drug that treats Covid-19 at the very first sign will be available by the end of this year, the company’s CEO said.
CNBC also notes that the company, which developed the first authorized Covid-19 vaccine in the U.S. with German drugmaker BioNTech, began in March an early-stage clinical trial testing a new antiviral therapy for the disease.
“The drug is part of a class of medicines called protease inhibitors and works by inhibiting an enzyme that the virus needs to replicate in human cells,” CNBC notes.
Pfizer has been making headlines lately due to some issues that have been popping up around their vaccine.
But it’s extremely important to note the fact that some reactions that people saw following the Pfizer vaccine are actually good news – but with so many issues being reported by the media, people don’t know what to believe anymore, and they are panicking like there’s no tomorrow.
Covid vaccines efficiency
Now, CNBC reveals the best possible news about the vaccines produced by Moderna and Pfizer: they are 94% effective at preventing hospitalizations among fully vaccinated adults ages 65 and older, according to a real-world study published Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“This multisite U.S. evaluation under real-world conditions suggests that vaccination provided protection against COVID-19–associated hospitalization among adults aged ≥65 years,” the CDC wrote in the study.
The notes also revealed that “Vaccination is a critical tool for reducing severe COVID-19 in groups at high risk.”
