A terrible incident occurred at the Oakland County Fair, and now public health officials are trying to locate attendees who may have come into contact with ill pigs. The event that occurred at the Oakland County Fair is quite distressing because it demonstrates, once again, how terribly animals are treated and how they are subsequently blamed for something that they clearly could not have done. We really are the worst.
From the 7th to the 16th of July, the fair was held in Springfield Oaks County Park in Davisburg. An entrant at the Oakland County Fair was found to be positive for the highly dangerous swine flu, and as a result, public health officials are contacting anybody who has been in the barn where potentially infected pigs were housed. This specimen is currently on its way to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, to be tested for the presence of swine flu.
Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Chief Medical Executive for MDHHS, made the following statement:
Visitors of the Oakland County Fair should monitor for flu-like symptoms: fever, respiratory symptoms like cough and runny nose, body aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If you believe you may have the flu, contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible and stay home until you have recovered.
A severe sickness might result in complications such as pneumonia, which can lead to the need for hospitalization and can even result in death in extreme cases. Children younger than five years of age, pregnant women, and individuals 65 years of age and older are at a higher risk of having problems if they become infected with a variation of the influenza virus. People who have certain chronic health disorders, such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes, a compromised immune system, and neurodevelopmental conditions or neurological conditions, should also be cautious about this issue.
How to avoid contracting the swine flu and its complications
- Regular hand washing with soap and water is highly recommended. If you do not have access to soap and water, you can use a hand rub that contains alcohol instead.
- Stay away from close quarters with individuals who are ill.
- If you are ill, you should not go to work or school until you have fully recovered from your sickness.
- Stay away from your face, especially your eyes, mouth, and nose. This is how germs are spread.
- If you experience symptoms similar to the flu, you should avoid contact with pigs. Wait until seven days have passed since the onset of your sickness or until you have been fever-free for twenty-four hours without the use of any drugs to bring down your temperature, whichever comes first.
- It is inappropriate to consume food or drink while in the cattle barns or exhibition rings.
- Make sure you are vaccinated against the flu every year.
Always keep in mind that it is essential to discuss any concerns you have regarding your health with your primary care physician as soon as possible in order to receive the best available medical help.
