FDA Probes Whether Moderna Vaccine Can Cause Rare Side Effect In Teenagers

It’s been just revealed that the US FDA will be needing more time in order to decide whether the Moderna covid vaccine for kids between 12 to 17 years old can be safely used.

The FDA continues to look into potential side effects of the vaccine

The official notes reveal that the extended timeline is so the FDA can “look into reports of a rare side effect — myocarditis, or the inflammation of the heart muscle — in those who’ve gotten the shot. Moderna said the FDA informed the company of the delay on Friday.”

Here’s what Moderna said in a statement:

“The safety of vaccine recipients is of paramount importance to Moderna. The Company is fully committed to working closely with the FDA to support their review and is grateful to the FDA for their diligence.”

It’s been also revealed that the government’s review of Moderna’s application for an emergency use authorization of the coronavirus vaccine in teens may not be finished until January.

NPR.org notes the following:

“Both the Modern and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to produce myocarditis as a rare side effect. However, viral infections, including COVID-19, also can cause myocarditis. Most children and adolescents who experience myocarditis recover.”

Addressing myocarditis post covid vaccine issue

The CDC continues to update data about the side effects following the covid vaccines.

The report is called “Myopericarditis following COVID-19 vaccination: Updates from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)”

The official notes state the following:
