An Endemic Covid? Europe Seems To Start Treating Covid ‘Like The Flu’

Covid 19 has been making headlines for more than two years now, and people are wondering when it will all be over and when we can get back to our everyday lives.

Bloomberg, CNBC, and more essential publications are flaunting the same news today: Europe starts to treat covid like the flu.

The news actually comes from London, and CNBC revealed recently that there are growing calls in Europe for Covid-19 to be treated as an endemic illness like the flu.

Covid to become endemic?

This is reportedly happening despite strong warnings from global health officials that the pandemic is far from over.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is the latest European leader to suggest that it’s time to re-evaluate Covid.

He called on the EU to debate the possibility of treating the virus as an endemic illness.

“The situation is not what we faced a year ago.”

This is what Sánchez said in a radio interview with Spain’s Cadena SER on Monday as Spanish schoolchildren returned to their classrooms after the holidays.

“I think we have to evaluate the evolution of Covid to an endemic illness, from the pandemic we have faced up until now,” he added.

It’s important to mention the fact that he also said it was time to open the debate around a gradual re-appraisal of the pandemic “at the technical level and at the level of health professionals, but also at the European level.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, and others testified before a Senate committee about the federal response to covid 19 variants.

Check out what he said about Omicron below.

“Omicron, with its extraordinary, unprecedented degree of efficiency of transmissibility, will ultimately find just about everybody.”

This is what Dr. Anthony Fauci told J. Stephen Morrison, senior vice president of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

“Those who have been vaccinated … and boosted would get exposed. Some, maybe a lot of them, will get infected but will very likely, with some exceptions, do reasonably well in the sense of not having hospitalization and death.”

In contrast, those who are not vaccinated are “going to get the brunt of the severe aspect of this,” he also added.
