Good Nutrition Leads to a Longer Life, a New Canadian Study Revealed

The Canadians researchers had done a study about the longevity of humans if proper nutrition is to consider. You will find the research in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. The study is saying that everyone can pass the age of 80 years old if the nutrition is an essential factor to consider. Also, the researchers have discussed in the study the food insecurity from which a lot of people are suffering.

One of the issues debated by the researchers in the study is the food insecurity. That means that not everyone has access to quality food because one of the main reasons is the financial constraint. If we look at the Canada Statistic and the Canadian Community Health Survey, the data is showing one in eight homes are into the food insecurity category. Regarding Canada, the information is showing that four million Canadians are struggling to put some food on their tables. If we look across the planet, we are talking about 800 million people in this condition.

However, the research is studying people with food security and people with moderate or severe food security. The longevity is the object of interest, and the study was held between 2005 and 2017. After all these years, the data is showing 25.460 premature deaths. The percent of the people with food insecurity that died prematurely is between 11-37%. Or in other words, we can say that a person that is struggling with the food is losing nine years of his life.

Moreover, the study is showing that the people who died prematurely because of the food insecurity are the ones that suffer from cardiac and respiratory disease, diabetes, psychological distress, HIV, hepatitis C, and other chronic illness. Finally, some fixes exist through the help of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which offers $2 per person for a meal. The results after this program are a reduction of the food insecurity by 30%, especially for the children and other vulnerable populations.
