Excellent white and whale sharks are part of the endangered species, as researchers are warning. The new study is showing that the sharks are prone to experience several losses in their ecological roles in the community. The study has identified the marine megafauna and its potential threats, discovering that a significant swift in the day-by-day living of several species might change. The research was realized by analyzers from the University of Swansea in the United Kingdom.
The study has been published in the Science Advances journal and its leading author is Catalina Pimiento. The theme of this research is determining the impact of a massive extinction in marine species and the swift of habits of the remaining marine animals. The concern to measure the biodiversity is linked to the industrial activities that are harming more and more species. How is the lack of variety in species going to impact the environment?
Protecting White and Whale Sharks
The most massive animals living in the oceans are the ones known to have the most impressive impact on the evolution of the marine ecosystems. Besides this, these species are also the ones facing the most significant part of threats created by humans, such as climate change and fisheries. Therefore, this research is not adopting the classic approach of determining the species that are going to become extinct, but the evolution of habits in the already existing species.
Therefore, the approach regarding this matter was made using two different theories. One of them is looking at the data that was already determined by the International Union for Conservation Nature regarding the extinction probability. The second alternative was to perform a hypothetical case where all the 40% species listed as endangered have already become extinct. This study brings a bright side to the matter since the scientists have managed to discover the key species that need to be protected and carefully monitored.
