Comets the size of major cities passing through our Solar System are pretty rare, and one such space object is approaching our cosmic vicinity fast. It’s unlike any other comet in recorded history, and it carries the name of 2014 UN271. The cosmic monster was observed during the Dark Energy Survey mission in 2014.
AccuWeather.com brings the terrifying news of the huge comet, but actually, there’s really nothing to be terrified about.
2014 UN271 won’t hit Earth
The huge comet will hurtle through our solar system in less than a decade, but there’s no need to worry. Humanity will live on for long after 2014 UN271’s passing through the solar system unless something completely unexpected happens, such as another comet that comes undetected, an alien invasion, or God knows what else.
The huge comet is somewhere between 60 and 230 miles wide, which qualifies it for one of the largest comets ever found by astronomers. There’s no wonder why the space object is called a “mega comet”. By comparison, the asteroid or comet (aka the Chicxulub impactor) that wiped out the dinosaurs about 60 million years ago was measuring only 7 miles wide. You can easily imagine for yourself how devastating a 60-miles wide comet can be for our planet.

Pedro Bernardelli and Gary Bernstein were the two guys who took a close look at the huge comet’s trajectory, and they even gave it another name that it may be easier to pronounce: Comet Bernardinelli-Bernstein.
Although 2014 UN271 won’t give Earth a “kiss”, there are chances that it will produce some impressive fireworks in the night sky.
It will still affect the outer planets, possibly disrupting them and their orbits. This must have happened some other time ..
