Our Universe is not very secretive when it comes to constantly be willing to remind us how truly vulnerable our planet is. You may not have heard about Comet C/2017 K2 (PANSTARRS) (aka K2 for short), but you might want to write it down soon enough. It’s the name of a comet that will fly by our planet in July, and there’s even a chance to see it using a telescope, according to Space.com.
The closest approach of the comet to our planet will be on July 14, so there’s plenty of time to start saving money to buy a telescope. We can’t blame you if you haven’t heard about the K2 comet, either. The space object was discovered relatively recently: in 2017.

To get a clear look at Comet C/2017 K2, the weather obviously needs to be on your side. A cloudy sky isn’t the winning ticket, so make sure you pick a better spot from where the sky looks clean if you want to catch a good look at the comet!
The K2 comet is huge, as it has a core that measures somewhere between 30 to 160 kilometers wide. However, astronomers are still not completely sure about the size of the comet.
Also, there’s no use in hoping that you can spot the comet with the naked eye. K2 will reach a magnitude of 8 or 7 in brightness.
While continuing its journey towards the Sun, the K2 comet will reach its closest point to our star near the end of the current year, in December.
