The Biden family in the news
News has recently emerged that the United States government has made the decision to permanently stop providing funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. This move was made due to the institute’s non-compliance with federal regulations. According to Bloomberg, the decision was communicated to the institute on Monday in a memo, which also detailed plans to prevent any future support.
The institute had previously received funding from the National Institutes of Health for gain-of-function research on coronaviruses. It is worth noting that the institute is located in the city where the COVID-19 outbreak began. While some have speculated that the institute may be the origin of the pandemic, no official ruling has been made on this matter.
Last June, President Joe Biden authorized the release of a report revealing that U.S. intelligence agencies have not reached a consensus on the origin of COVID-19.
The report presented two possible explanations, natural and laboratory-associated, for the first human infection and stated that further investigation will be conducted. It also highlighted that several scientists working at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) fell sick in the fall of 2019 and that the institute did not always follow safety protocols. Additionally, researcher Ben Hu, who received funding from the U.S. to study coronaviruses, was identified in multiple reports as one of the first scientists to experience symptoms.
